What is Psyllium husk?

Psyllium husk is white fibrous material derived from the outer coating of the Psyllium seed, like the bran layer of grains.

When should it be used?

How should it be used?

Psyllium comes in powder, wafer and granule form. The label tells you how much to take at each dose. The powder and granules must be mixed with eight ounces of a pleasant tasting liquid, such as fruit juice, right before use. For Psyllium to work properly and to prevent side effects, you must drink at least eight ounces of liquid when you take it. Chew wafers thoroughly.

 

How to use Psyllium Husk Fibre?

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor. If you are self-treating, follow all directions on the product package. If you are uncertain about any of the information, ask your doctor or pharmacist. To prevent choking from this medication, take it with a full glass of water or other liquid (8 ounces/240 millilitres). If you are taking the wafers, chew them thoroughly before swallowing.

 

For powder forms of this medication, measure each dose according to the directions on the product label. Mix in a full glass of water or other liquid (8 ounces/240 millilitres), stir completely, and drink right away. You may add more liquid to the mixture if it becomes too thick. When preparing the medication, be careful not to breathe in the powder since it may rarely cause an allergic reaction.

Dosage is based on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or take this drug more often than directed.

 

Does Psyllium husk interfere with medication?

This product may decrease the absorption of other medications you may be taking. Take this product at least 2 hours from your other medications. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information or if you have any questions.

Do not take psyllium if you have stomach or abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, or a change in bowel function that lasts longer than two weeks without checking with your doctor first. Do not take more medication at each dose than as directed.

 What special dietary instruction should I follow while using this drug?

To prevent constipation, drink plenty of fluids, exercise regularly, and eat a high- fiber diet, including whole- grain (e.g. bran) cereals, fruits and vegetables. If you take psyllium for high cholesterol, your doctor also may prescribe a low- cholesterol or low- fat diet. Follow these instructions carefully.

 What should I do if forget to take a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it, and take any remaining doses for that day at the regularly scheduled times. However, if you remember the missed dose when it is time for your next scheduled dose, take only the scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

 What side effects can this drug cause? What can I do about them?

Although side effects from Pysllium are not common, they can occur. Difficulty breathing, stomach pain, difficulty swallowing, skin rash,, itching. Stop taking Pysllium and contact your doctor immediately. Difficulty swallowing may be reduced by drinking more fluid with this medication.

What is the Pysllium husk process?

The process consists of mainly a complete cleaning of seeds at the Pre-cleaning and Cleaning sections. Then moving to the Grinding Section where the clean seeds are passed through grinding mills at eight passes along with separation of husk through a closed circuit. The husk is then passed through Gravity separators for further purification before custom packaging.
